Generate. Use.
Exchange.
During daylight, solar generation supplies the property first. Eligible surplus may move through the approved metering arrangement, while the grid supplies the balance when generation is lower.
- 01
Generate
Panels convert available sunlight into electricity.
- 02
Use
The property uses available solar electricity first.
- 03
Export
Eligible surplus may pass through the bidirectional meter.
- 04
Balance
Grid imports and eligible exports are handled under the applicable billing arrangement.
Net-metering eligibility, limits, settlement and application procedures are subject to current MERC and MSEDCL rules. Confirm the current position before making a financial decision.
Before system design
The bill is only
the beginning.
A bill shows how much electricity the property uses. The roof, shade, structure, access and sanctioned load determine what can be installed safely and usefully.
Electricity consumption and tariff

Common questions
Practical answers,
without the jargon.
How is a rooftop solar system sized?+
System sizing considers electricity consumption, tariff category, sanctioned load, usable roof area, shading and the customer’s financial priorities. A monthly bill is a useful starting point, but a site survey is needed for a final recommendation.
What happens when solar generation is higher than consumption?+
Depending on the approved metering arrangement, surplus generation may be exported to the grid and handled through the applicable billing mechanism. Eligibility and settlement rules depend on current regulations and the distribution company.
Does solar work during a power cut?+
A standard grid-connected system normally shuts down during an outage for safety. Backup during an outage requires an appropriately designed hybrid or storage solution. The correct configuration depends on the required loads and operating priorities.
How much roof area is required?+
A preliminary estimate often uses approximately 100 square feet per kW, but actual space depends on module selection, orientation, shading, access pathways and the roof structure.
Does a solar plant require maintenance?+
Yes. Monitoring, inspection, cleaning and timely fault response help protect generation. The frequency depends on dust, weather, site access and equipment conditions.
Are subsidies included in the website calculator?+
No. The current calculator is an indicative system-sizing tool. Subsidy availability, eligibility and value should be confirmed against the latest applicable scheme before making a purchase decision.
